FAQ
-
What is BookStack?
BookStack is an open-source, self-hostable wiki and documentation platform that organises content into shelves, books, chapters, and pages. It suits teams that want a simple, searchable home for internal knowledge and documentation, and that prefer to own their wiki rather than pay for a SaaS tool on a per-seat basis.
-
Does the BookStack hosting also work from the US, Australia, Japan, China, or South America?
Yes. Although our servers are located in Europe, BookStack hosting performs reliably worldwide with no noticeable delay, and customers in the US, South America, and Asia use it every day. You can confirm this yourself with our free 14-day trial.
-
Do you I only get the web space or a fully installed Bookstack?
With peaknetworks Bookstack Hosting, you receive the latest version of Bookstack fully installed with Superuser access to Bookstack.
-
What about updates on the Bookstack Server?
We handle all BookStack updates and upgrades free of charge. We never apply them automatically, so your workflow is never interrupted. When you want an update, email support@peaknetworks.net with your customer number and instance name, and we carry it out at no cost.
-
Can I use my own domain or subdomain with Bookstack hosting, and is SSL included?
External domains or subdomains can be used, such as bookstack.domain.tld or wiki.domain.tld. You provide us with the desired domain or subdomain during or after ordering, and we will respond with the necessary DNS entries for the domain or subdomain and the free Let's Encrypt SSL certificate. Your Bookstack will then be accessible under this domain or subdomain. The SSL certificate is automatically renewed by us.
-
Do I get SSH access and Composer on the server?
Yes, SSH public keys can be stored in the control panel. You can then log into the Bookstack server and work there. PHP and Composer can be used directly in the shell.
-
Are backups included?
Of course. We run an automatic backup of all files and databases every night, kept as a rolling 10-day history. If you ever need to recover data, we restore it for you free of charge on request.
-
Does Single Sign-On (SSO) work with the Bookstack Server?
Yes. BookStack supports external authentication such as SAML, configured through the server's .env file. We set this up for you free of charge during installation, so your existing users can sign in to the new wiki straight away.
-
What is the advantage of peaknetworks Bookstack compared to self-hosting?
You save yourself the installation of Bookstack. Updates and upgrades of Bookstack are carried out by us. The operating system and new PHP versions are also updated by us. You have a 10-day rolling backup of all files and databases. Our support is included free of charge in the hosting.
-
How quickly can I get started with BookStack Hosting?
You will usually receive access to your fully configured BookStack instance shortly after placing your order. No manual setup, no waiting times. You can start documenting and collaborating right away.
-
Where is my BookStack data stored?
Your BookStack instance is hosted exclusively in our own data centres in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. No US data centres and no US-based services are involved in hosting or processing it, so your data stays in Europe, and your hosting is GDPR- and FADP-compliant by design.
